The Controller and Auditor General (CAG) report provides feedback on the service done on auditing government revenue and expenditure in order to bring about greater transparency and accountability in management of the public resources.
The CAG financial report has been filled with financial language which was hard for local citizens to understand. Poor transparency hinders public accountability and creates lack of trust and poor community support. It is necessary for citizens to know how the government revenue and expenditure is used, especially by the local government, to ensure proper utilization of resources for public benefits.
A problem on the poor understanding of the CAG financial report to the Local citizens, led WAJIBU to collaborate with Policy Forum using the 7:30 breakfast debate to present the simplified version of CAG Financial report. The purpose was to help people understand and be more informed about the report.
The simplified version of the CAG financial report helped to raise public awareness on how the government utilizes the public resources, it helped to build trust and transparency which is key to public money accountability and enhance good governance that promotes development.
